February 2019 Meeting

Eighteen members gathered for our wine tasting evening on the 6th February. Val, Heather and Geoff introduced their favourite red and white wines from Europe, South America and Australia.

Each member was asked to mark (out of 10) each wine for colour, bouquet, body and clarity. This proved to be a very difficult task as one or two of us thought that for colour we had to write red or white instead of awarding a number.

We were very quickly put right. (I would like to point out that, at this point in time, we had only had one (or two) sips of the first wine!!) However, after much discussion and a bit more slurping, the Wine Club’s members voted a white wine from Germany (Slate Hill, a Riesling from the Mosel Valley, £9.00 from Majestic) as their favourite wine.

This is best enjoyed as an aperitif or with a curry. Apparently Reisling is a noble grape, a term used to describe the international variety of grapes that are most recognizable for the top quality wine they produce – it appears that the Wine Club do know a good wine when they taste it!!

Our next meeting on Tuesday, 5th March will be a skittles evening at the Royal British Legion in Limpsfield with food included.
