October 2018 Meeting

Fourteen members met for a “blind” wine tasting evening on the 2nd October. We were treated to a range of 8 different wines, and were asked to guess the grape variety, country, and year for each wine.

The wines were: (1) a NZ Sauvignon Blanc (Mud House, 2017); (2) a USA Pinot Noir (Noble Vines 667, 2016); (3) a NZ Merlot (Villa Maria, 2017); (4) an Argentinian Bonarda Shiraz (Ramirez De Velazco, 2008); (5) a Spanish Tempranillo (Carlos Bujanda, 2009); (6) a Fer Servadou wine from Marcillac, France (2007); (7) a French Minervois Cabernet Sauvignon (Massamier La Mignarde, 2007); and (8) a sweet Spanish Pedro Ximenez (Gran Barquero).

Barry won the prize for topping the quiz. Many thanks to Francis and Denise for organising the wines, nibbles, and the quiz. Also thanks to Suze and Pete for the raffle. Members agreed that the evening was great value for £5 per head.

We next meet on 6th November for the club’s AGM, which will be combined with a games evening. Rumour has it that the Vintage Trio may be providing some live music.

Our club is an informal one, which enjoys wine, food, and good company. There is only a nominal members’ annual fee, and a very low charge for certain events. Village residents are encouraged to call me if they are interested in sampling a club event, or would like to learn more about the club. Francis Dickinson, Ph 822495

September 2018 Meeting

Fourteen members of the Nutfield Wine Club met on the 4thSeptember for a Spanish-themed evening. Members contributed Spanish food (thanks especially to Val, Heather, Janet, Graham and David), and enjoyed Sangria and a variety of Spanish wines.

Unfortunately the flamenco dancers got lost on their way from Seville, so Janet and Graham organised some background music. Thanks also to Suze and Pete for providing the quiz, and to Mary and Derek who organised the raffle and very generously donated the prizes.

We next meet on October 2ndwhen Francis will lead a blind tasting. Members are also reminded that the AGM will be on 6thNovember, which we will combine with a games evening.
