February 2014 meeting

On Tuesday 4th February 25 club members enjoyed tasting a selection of wines chosen by three of their number.

All the wines were red (we wonder if they are keeping the whites for the summer?) and included a Merlot from Australia - a 2012 Lindeman's wine from the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales having "a soft and elegant palate"; a 2011 Malbec by the Bodega Septima from the Mendoza region of Argentina, described as "a bold fruity wine ideal to drink with meat dishes"; a 2013 Cabernet Merlot from South Eastern Australia - a Hardy's Stamp wine, described as being "perfect with spicy beef or soft cheeses"; and two surprise wines (the descriptions on the labels being in Portuguese) from the Dao region of North Portugal and from Central Portugal.

All the wines were enjoyed, but the two Australian wines were the favourites: the Merlot can be found at the Corner Stores and the Cabernet Merlot at Morrisons.

Our March's event, on Tuesday 4th, is our annual visit to the Haycutter for supper and skittles!
