February 2013 meeting
The Club's wine tasting in February was a very interesting evening, giving the 19 members present an opportunity to try a variety of less familiar wines. Among them was one grape with the intriguing name Loin de l'oeil, a name that originates from the way the grapes grow, with a long stalk, hence "Far from the eye"; this white wine, "Gaillac" was a popular one with members. A very full-bodied cabernet-sauvignon came from Val de l'Ours, a name which might be familiar to skiers. Others included a "Carinena" from Spain, "La Nantaise" muscadet from France and "La Chasse", a chardonnay viognier also from France and a shiraz cabernet sauvignon First Cape President's Selection from South Africa.
Our very grateful thanks go to Suzanne C., Kim and Kelvin, Laurie and Ron for contributing the wines.
Our March event, Tuesday 5th at 7.30, is the annual visit to The Haycutter for skittles and supper.

In between sips, a couple of light-hearted quizzes provided food for thought. (For example, Who said "Some weasel took the cork out of my lunch?" - Ernest Hemingway, Foster Brooks, Mae West or W.C. Fields?)
