September 2013 meeting

On 3rd September the Club lived up to its name: twenty-seven members and eight visitors from the Coulsdon Wine Club spent a most convivial evening tasting a variety of wines and cheeses from around the world.

Francis and Denise had put together a very interesting range of wines, all highly rated by members - a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, a Chardonnay from Chile, a Gewürztraminer from Alsace, a Pinot noir from France, a Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile, a Shiraz from South Australia and a Port from Portugal, the last three being particularly popular. Their selection of accompanying cheeses was equally varied and offered some unexpectedly satisfying combinations: an English and a French goat's cheese, recommended to go well with the Sauvignon Blanc, Dutch Gouda with the Chardonnay, German smoked cheese with the Gewürztraminer, French camembert with the Pinot Noir, Spanish manchego with the Malbec, Italian gorgonzola with the Port.

We owe the Dickinsons our sincere thanks for a thoroughly successful evening.

October's meeting will hear a talk by Colin Deeprose about his experiences working at the Albert Hall. Please note that the date is Tuesday 8th, not the 1st as in the printed programme. Usual time of 8.00 at the Christchurch Centre.
