April 2014 meeting

Club members have enjoyed two events in recent weeks. On a trip to the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 23rd March 18 members attended the Classical Spectacular Concert by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Choir with the Band of the Scots Guards. First there was time first to visit Hyde Park, the Albert Memorial and the local pub for a drink and a sandwich. Then many classical pieces in the concert were appreciated, and members were able to exercise their voices with Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia. The very impressive finale ranged from colourful Can Can dancers to the 1812 Overture with thundering cannons, laser display and fireworks. A very successful day, with thanks to Graham for providing transport.

For our April meeting 23 of us gathered at the Station Pub and after sampling the landlord's Thai menu tested ourselves in the quiz. One team ("The Nutfield Winos") took the booby prize; "The Nutfield Winos 2" took runner-up booby; and our third team ("No-to-the-Runway") scored a respectable 33, only 6 points behind the winners. It was however an enjoyable evening.

On Tuesday 6th of May we are going to Bower Hill Farm for a nature ramble with a fish and chip supper to follow. Last year we had to cancel this event as bad weather had meant there was nothing of interest to see. This year has been different so we look forward to a fine evening. Please come along as soon as you can after 7 o'clock.
