August visit to Chapel Down

On Sunday 4th August sixteen members of the Wine Club enjoyed a very interesting visit to the Chapel Down vineyard and winery in Kent. An affable guide, David, showed us old vines and new, and took us along the journey from grape to bottle, and even beyond, when we were given an opportunity to taste a number of the wines from their range of sparkling and still whites, rosés and red.

We then were able to take advantage of the fine weather and have a picnic lunch, followed by a stroll to the nearby Ellen Terry Museum. Our day was rounded off with a delightful drive through the Kent countryside to Bodiam Castle for tea.

Maureen and Chris are to be congratulated for organizing a splendid outing and we thank Graham too for taking us on such a lovely drive.
